You and your bridal gown- How to know if you should go strapless.

I am not a small girl.  I have never been a small girl.  So I get it, I do.  The world of fashion looks at our zaftig figures and says, “We will just make the same dress, bigger.” So what are we left with?  Plus sized,  strapless bridal gowns originally designed for a 98 pound girl.

What are we going to do about it?  Personally, I think we need to stop telling ourselves we are not gorgeous.  Because we are so HOTT!  Play up the features that make us bombshells and down play the features we don’t love.  And that advice goes for every woman! So I have designed some tough questions to ask yourself.  Your answers will tell you whether or not a strapless bridal gown is you friend:

1.  Are you comfortable wearing a white tube top during your everyday activities?

2. Are you comfortable wearing a strapless bra during your everyday activities?

3. Do you like the way your upper body looks in a bathing suit top?

4.  Do you feel comfortable giving the “girls” little or no support during everyday activities?

5. If you are picking out an outfit and you want to look your cutest in front of your nearest and dearest, would you wear a white tube top with a strapless bra and no over shirt?

Did you answer “YES!” to all or most of the questions?  Great!  Go forth into the sea of strapless bridal gowns.  Did you answer “NO!” to all or most of the above questions? Yeah, well me too.  Maybe a strapless gown would not be your best choice.

But do not worry your cute-self.  By the way, did I tell you how pretty you look today? Because we are going to accessorize you into a show stopping and gorgeous whoa-man!

Got your back!

Ahhhh… The dreaded back cleavage  (see above).  I have seen it happen to woman of all sizes and ages.  I blame the lack of eyeballs in the back of our head.

This lace bolero would be perfect for the girl who wants to minimize upper arms and slim the back.  It would also be great to help balance out a smaller bust line. From Etsy seller, HollyStadler

A classic light shawl would be just perfect for a more casual, vintage style wedding.  From Etsy seller moocowhandknits

Arms to hold you with:

The upper arms are a problem area for a lot of women.  Truthfully, mine rarely see the light of day.

I want to wear this around the house and to the grocery store!  Just stunning.  This would be amazing to help hide a few less than desirable parts and add some modesty at the same time.  From Etsy seller Countessa

So very Mad Men.  I love it!  This would be a wonderful look for a wintery wedding.  From Etsy seller Alexbridal

No matter what look you choose to wear on your wedding day, adore it, be comfortable in it just remember, your love for each other will be your most shining wedding day accessory!

From a photographers stand point I could not agree more. Also a more robust woman, My arms are not my best feature, I do not look good in sleeveless or strapless. I can personally testify how slimming a little bolero jacket can be for a bride, it looks cute and hides the dreaded ‘chicken cutlet’ in photos.
Judy, as usual you were the only one that was able to openly talk about a delicate subject…next stop oprah !
